Crackling noises in windows media player?

I was having some trouble with windows media player so i moved to itunes. It was working fine until i tried to copy music to my cell phone, i noticed that itunes encodes the music into aac (.m4a), which, isnt supported by my cellphone. I moved back to wmp (that was now working, suprisingly). But it wasnt able to play wma files, i did a sfc /scannow command. It said that it had found some errors and fixed them but upon restarting windows media player opened wma files without an error but only made cracking noises, it does this for every file type. It only makes cracking noises not music with cracking noises just cracking noises. Thanks in advance.
