Inflammation of jaw? helppp!?

ok, so I had quite bad lock jaw last week, couldn't open my mouth very far and it hurt to eat or open my mouth wide. I went to my doctors and he told me that it was an inflammation of my jaw joint and he gave me some cream called ... algesal. I've been using this a few days now and it had helped a lot, however now my jaw/face has started to ache and swell and its also quite red. I don't think its a reaction but help? anyone know whats up?
