Facebook privacy issue?

All of my settings are set to friends only, but I made a status about how I want to get a job today, and in about an hour some random company called me up looking to hire me. (Or use me, it was one of those pyramid scheme things.) Anyway, I'm just wondering how they could have possibly seen my status and then were able to get my cellphone number, which can be seen by friends on my facebook profile. Im also concerned for the future for when I apply to colleges this summer. I don't really have anything incriminating, but I don't like the idea of someone I do not know accessing my profile.
