Why won't my boostberry cellphone work?

I downloaded the service books onto my Nextel 8350i blackberry so that I could use it with my boost SIM card. I downloaded Opera Mini to the phone also. Still, no text messages and won't let me browse the internet. What did I do wrong or what do I need to do in addition to this? Please help....
